Software is one of the most important drivers of innovation – in the car and in the network between the OEM, components suppliers and service providers. In the area of embedded software when new functions are integrated this increases both product and process complexity – something that can be managed only with systematic procedures. High efficiency and quality are also needed in application development. In particular, at the interface between the OEM and its component suppliers it is necessary that everyone involved has the same common understanding of processes and methods. Uniform standards are urgently required. In addition: if software development is largely outsourced, interface management has strategic importance – the limits for more improvements in efficiency have certainly not been reached yet.
