BER
Compliance specifications, such as the Block Exemption Regulation (BER), require, among other things, that car manufacturers provide independent car repair shops with all the data they need to maintain and repair their cars. In addition, several car manufacturers have voluntarily agreed to guarantee more transparency for the independent car repair shops. How can OEMs fulfil these specifications comprehensively and completely - while keeping costs as low as possible?
Information portal: Always up to date
Practice has shown that information portals are ideally suited for providing independent car repair shops with all the necessary repair and diagnostics data as well as data to program and code control equipment. Once they have been implemented these web-based information platforms can be updated at no great expense - such as when a new model is launched. In this way car manufacturers fulfil all the regulatory guidelines efficiently and inexpensively; the car repair shops can guarantee that repairs are carried out at a high quality because they always have access to the latest data. And that keeps the end customers happy.
Competition laws demand equality
Why are car manufacturers obliged to provide independent car repair shops with data? The reason for this is that European competition laws demand that independent car repair shops are treated the same as authorised repairers. The USA has similar guidelines, with CARB, EPA and the Dorgan letter.
